There are approximately 1.5 million photographs in U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center's archival collection. The images in the collection consist of some of the earliest forms of photography from daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tin types to salted paper, albumen and platinum prints to the more modern black and white and color photographs to recent born digital images. The collection represents the history of the United States Army and covers all major conflicts from the Civil War, the Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, both World Wars to the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War era, the Persian Gulf War to current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over 10,000 images have been digitized and are available in our digital archive. We will be adding more digitized photographs from our collections, which will continue to be seen here in ever increasing numbers. With such an immense and diverse collection, it will be many years before a sizeable percentage of our holdings will be available online. However, researchers are welcome to visit us to view our collections or to SUBMIT AN INQUIRY. |
